Move to a new billing system [31 May 1998]

London Videotron subscribers have been sent, over the past few days, a letter stating that they will be moved to a new billing system. Southampton subscribers are already on this system which, thankfully, gives much more concise bills and does not spout forth reams and reams of paper listing each unmetered call!

A post to the mailing list commented:

[The words in this letter] 'Please note that this does not involve any change to ... your services' - does one detect the tiniest trace of Cable and Wireless Watch scar tissue in this sentence?

I wouldn't know, but it's a nice thought.

On a more serious note, CWC's previous statement to Internet Magazine that unmetered 'cable-cable' calls would have to go because of the difficulty of integrating the (Bell Cablemedia, Mercury, Nynex and Videotron) existing billing systems is, as a result of their own actions, false.

And, it would seem, there is now no technical barrier, if there ever was one, to extending such calls to all other CWC subscribers as the unified billing system can handle them ...
