If unmetered local calls were removed I wouldn't be as badly affected as many others.

I use the Internet for about half an hour per weekday and for a couple of hours on Saturday and Sunday when I'm at home. I'd like to use it more. I don't have a television and, for example, find the BBC news pages far superior to newspapers and radio - yet am frustrated by the dreadful slowness. If unmetered local calls were removed I'd go back to using email and news only: Web access really soaks up time online, which is a pity as there are some wonderful sites which simply take too long to download. Unfortunately, having a leased line at work demonstrates all too clearly how poor telephone access is.

I've thought about doing a postgraduate degree by distance learning. Some institutions offer courses online ... but the removal of unmetered local calls would kill that idea, as I would be spending a lot more time online than I do now.

As far as I'm concerned telephone access is not worth paying much for; call metering is out of the question. If cable modems, or a similar alternative, were offered I'd be first in the queue.
