Cable and Wattless
The current service has been invaluable for me, as I have been using the Internet to research for my dissertation and I am now starting a Web design company. This would have been impossible without the free calls.
I would like to think that an organisation which promotes itself as
revolutionising communication through technology would be keen to
promote this service. It would draw a huge percentage of newcomers to the Internet (most of whom will require a second line) away from BT, generating as much profit as any company could handle. It is estimated, as I'm sure you know, that at least 2.4 million in Britain will be online by 2000, perhaps more with the introduction of TV net browsing.
By promoting the free cable calls CWC could truly live up to its claims and set the example for others to follow. It is inevitable that in a short period of time local calls will have to be free, as people will increasingly use the internet to make long-distance calls via software. If they really wish to build an organisation by listening to the demands of the people, then they should not stop this service.
I would like to point out that I will NOT stay with CWC
should the service stop as the Internet would become unaffordable.
Definitely a technological step backwards.
