I joined Videotron on the combined package deal in March of last year. About two weeks later we (my wife and I) made the decision to move house. I contacted Videotron to find out the situation with my contract if I moved to an area not covered by their service. The reply was that I had signed a contract for a year and was therefore expected to honour this for the full term, ie I'd have to continue paying for a service that I wouldn't be receiving.

In the end (May '97) we moved to a house with an existing Videotron phone line so I asked if we could just have the phone and not the TV. The reply was again that I would still have to honour my combined contract for the full year.

Earlier this year I received my 'Sorry mate we've scrapped the Combined Service Discount' letter, and I phoned to complain. Asking just why CWC are allowed to change the terms of contract and not the customer, I was told that in fact the rules had changed and that if I wanted to, I could cancel my cable TV subscription. I was given a name of someone to write to to complain, but was told that it wouldn't make any difference, and it didn't - I had no reply.

So, like hundreds of others, I am holding my breath for the day that the letter drops on my doorstep. When that day arrives I will take my £40+ a month back to BT. I don't really want to do this, but at least BT have never gone back on any contract I ever had with them.
