Two snippets [15 March 1998]
Out of the numerous letters I am sent by correspondents two, in particular, contain gems.
The first, from mid-February, refers to the early January letter from CWC and states in part:
Please accept my apologies on behalf of Cable and Wireless for the poor wording contained in our price increase notification letter. This has been bought to the attention of our Marketing Department to ensure that any further correspondence of this nature is thoroughly vetted before it is sent out to our customers.
So, it would seem, a highly contentious letter sent to over 100,000 subscribers wasn't proofread properly: as a result, there has been confusion and a complaint taken up by the ASA.
The second, written a few days ago, states in part:
Please note that Cable and Wireless does not offer unmetered calls and I can confirm that we have no plans to introduce this for our customers.
Now does 'no plans' mean 'no [plans] at present'?
You will be surprised to hear that CWC were considering unmetered calls a few months ago. They lobbied OFTEL for flat-rate access to other operators' networks ... but were turned down.
